Itinerary

4-Day Tour

  • Day 1 – Local departure by coach then to Belgium for an overnight stay.
  • Day 2 – We travel to Joe’s Bridge, the start position of the Guards Armoured Division at the beginning of Operation Market Garden. We look at the Irish Guards assault and see their graves at Valkenswaard War Cemetery. We then see the vast German cemetery at Ysselsteyn before visiting the impressive Overloon War Museum. After lunch, we resume the XXX Corps route at the Grave Bridge, before looking at the tough fighting for Nijmegen and the crossing of the Waal River by American Airborne forces. Continue to our hotel in Wolfheze for a two-night stay. Breakfast
  • Day 3 – We begin at the Hartenstein Hotel, headquarters of the 1st Airborne Division during the Arnhem battle, and now an excellent museum. We then see an original memorial at Wolfheze and look at one of the landing grounds at Ginkel Heath. Following a visit to the Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery we have lunch and then see some of the positions in the Oosterbeek Perimeter before visiting the area around Arnhem Bridge, where the pivotal battle for the outcome of Operation Market Garden took place.   • Day 4 – Return home. Breakfast
